About the role

Our client is Malaysia's pioneering independent oil and gas exploration and production company listed. The Company are dedicated to maximizing value from operational oilfields and expanding their collection of development and production assets within the targeted geographical regions. A new opportunity has risen, and our client is looking for a Geophysicist to be based in Kuala Lumpur on a perm time basis.

The Geophysicist is responsible for geophysical evaluations and modelling throughout the exploration and production cycle are technically robust and meet or exceed industry or regulatory standards and requirements. The person also needs to coordinate the interaction with the other subsurface disciplines to ensure all subsurface data are appropriately integrated and utilized for subsurface studies and well planning.

Responsibilities

  • Perform seismic interpretation, velocity modeling, and structural modeling using Petrel software. Conduct well-to-seismic tie, forward modeling, seismic attribute mapping, and amplitude analysis to support reservoir properties and facies modeling efforts.
  • Generate accurate depth maps and provide detailed geomorphology interpretations of seismic attribute maps for constructing 3D reservoir models, supporting geologists and engineers.
  • Evaluate seismic data to define the configuration of oil and gas fields, contributing to effective hydrocarbon reserves and production management for the company.
  • Identify development and near-field exploration drilling opportunities.
  • Plan, budget, and oversee seismic surveys, seismic processing, and geophysical studies (such as AVO analysis, seismic inversion, etc.)
  • Provide geological input to support drilling operations, including real-time monitoring. Work closely with Operations and Wellsite Geologist during pre-drill, execution, and post-drill stages.
  • Perform pre-drill subsurface risk assessment and volumetrics. Generate ranked leads and prospects portfolio for drilling candidates.
  • Effectively work in an integrated team composed of geoscientists, petrophysicists, reservoir engineers and production technologist and taking the lead on geoscience matters.
  • Provide input to Field Development Plans (FDPs) for development opportunities.
  • Undertake accurate deterministic and probabilistic volumetric evaluations for reserves assessment and audits.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in the geoscience and petroleum engineering disciplines in the oil and gas industry, preferably with an operator.
  • Essential experience in planning, budgeting, and managing 3D seismic survey, seismic processing, and seismic studies.
  • Experience in geophysical tools with seismic attribute mapping, AVO techniques and quantitative seismic analysis.
  • Experience in using AVO and seismic inversion and other state-of-the-art software would be advantageous.
  • Direct oil and gas services experience such as site survey, seismic acquisition, and seismic processing.
  • Competent in geological depositional systems, with experience in Malay Basin or Sabah geological settings.
  • Familiar with geophysical data, offshore drilling operations including well site duties, logging and log analysis and interpretation.
  • Familiar with technical review process. Able to formulate Field Development Plan (FDP), Full Field Review (FFR) or similar processes.
