Position: Process Safety Engineer
Employment Type: 2 years direct hire contract
Location: Kuala Lumpur
Purpose:
To contribute as part of a process safety team on a proposal/project, collaborating with various departments and the process safety section, to manage Major Accident Hazards (MAHs) and prevent and mitigate Major Accident Events (MAEs) throughout the facility’s lifecycle.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development and review of HSSE Design Philosophy and other process safety-related philosophies. Provide guidance to the proposal/project to ensure compliance with company standards, client, and regulatory requirements for safety-related systems.
- Support the creation of the scope of work, perform technical bid evaluations for safety consultants, participate in workshops, plan, review, and deliver safety studies and deliverables. Ensure that safety studies and deliverables are completed accurately, on time, and demonstrate risks are managed to be As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP).
- Organize Bow-Tie workshops, define Safety Critical Elements (SCEs), communicate performance standards requirements, review SCE design, and manage tracking and review of EPCI assurance tasks, as directed by the Principal Engineer, to ensure that safety-critical elements are designed, procured, constructed, commissioned, and installed per performance standards to prevent and mitigate MAEs.
- Support the coordination and management of risk consultants/subcontractors to ensure the facility's risk is assessed according to the scope of work and methodology, within the specified timeframe and budget.
- Gather risk assessment input data, review risk assessments, prepare deliverables, review deliverables from other disciplines, and collaborate with other teams, as assigned by the Principal Engineer or assigned engineer. Ensure accurate deliverables with minimal errors to maximize efficiency. Minimize/manage deviations from company standards, client, and regulatory safety-related system requirements.
- Contribute to achieving the Project/Engineering Performance Goals defined for the year/project.
- Collaborate with the proposal/project team, consistently check deliverables for compliance, attend/support audits, and resolve non-conformities to ensure regulatory compliance during installation. Minimize non-conformities and delays to the project timeline.
- Communicate professionally with the client, address client comments, as directed by the Principal Engineer, ensuring the client is satisfied that hazards are appropriately managed.
- Work with the project team to ensure that changes are managed per the Management of Change Procedure and evaluate their impact on risk.
- Identify and share lessons learned to improve the management of MAHs and project execution.
- Ensure all technical competencies are met.

Requirements:
- A minimum of 1 year of relevant working experience in Process Safety engineering within the oil and gas sector
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical/Environmental/Mechanical Engineering, or a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience for a diploma holder.
